Arrests in Plan to Kill Obama and Black Schoolchildren

WASHINGTON — Two young men who are believers in “white power” have been arrested and charged in Tennessee in what federal officials described as a plan to assassinate Senator Barack Obama and kill black children at a school.

Federal officials said they regarded the scheme as “serious.” It does not appear to have moved to an advanced stage, according to court documents unsealed Monday, but officials said the two men did acquire several rifles and cased a home and a gun store to rob as part of the plan.

Federal officials said that both of the men who were arrested — Paul Schlesselman, 18, of West Helena, Ark., and Daniel Cowart, 20, of Bells, Tenn. — told interrogators that they had talked of assassinating Mr. Obama. Lawyers for the men could not be reached.

The two men “planned to drive their vehicle as fast as they could toward Obama shooting at him from the windows,” according to an affidavit filed in federal court in Jackson, Tenn., by an agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Mr. Obama has no plans to be in Tennessee, and the affidavit does not make clear whether the men had picked a place for an attack.

The assassination was to be the culmination of a “killing spree” that would also single out children at an unnamed, predominately black school, federal officials said. The men talked of “killing 88 people and beheading 14 African-Americans,” according to the affidavit.

The two men each had “very strong views” about Aryan white power and “skinhead” ideology, the federal officials said, and the numbers 88 and 14 have special significance in the white power movement. The number 88 is shorthand for “Heil, Hitler” — H is the eighth letter in the alphabet —and 14 signifies a 14-word mantra among white supremacists: “We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children.”

Officials said the two men met via the Internet through a mutual friend.

Concerns about possible plots against Mr. Obama have been acute because of his status as the first black presidential nominee from a major party. He has had Secret Service protection since May 2007, the earliest a candidate was ever assigned protection.

Mr. Cowart and Mr. Schlesselman were each charged with illegal possession of a sawed-off shotgun, conspiracy to rob a firearms dealer and making threats against a presidential candidate. A detention hearing is scheduled for Thursday in Memphis.

“We honestly don’t know if they had the capability or the wherewithal to carry out the kind of plan that they talked about,” Malcolm Wiley, a spokesman for the Secret Service in Washington, said in an interview. “But we take any threat seriously no matter how big or how small it is.”

Now I am a multiracial person. I am affected by what is said and done. It hurts and its worst since I am from the south.

I will not let these types of people get to me. I ask you not to let these people upset you or affect you in anyway. We are the people that will save this country from it self. We can and will make the difference. So please stay grounded and firm and change the world.

I just starting reading up on the subject. It’s really interesting. I’m actually quite scared. Some of the foods I’ve never heard of. They also look odd! I live in Columbia, SC downtown area. There is this restaurant call Vegan Lamb or something. I am going to try them out and see if I can stomach food. Then I’m going to incorporate more exercise, social activities and sex! I’m praying it leads to a great weight lost and less illnesses. Oh and healthier skin..I’ve had ecezema since I was seven..I’m 22 going on 23 now!

One thing I proved to work if you have plenty of time is myspace.com. If you have the patience to spend hours of your life trying to find quality people. Myspace is a good place to start. You just have to weed through teenagers and spammers.

What I did was created a group just for my business or cause. Also join lots of groups that are like what you’re trying to do. Don’t be afraid to introduce yourself and leave messages. You’ll be surprise how many people are interested.

Facebook: is my favorite networking tool. Pretty much same idea as myspace but more for students. Well that how it started off. The group option is better and so are the profile. The profile options are very detailed and you control who can see your profile.

Bloggers: I love searching for passionate bloggers. I’m constantly of google searching for internet/social marketing blogs.  Some of these sites are run by very passionate and nice individuals. That don’t mind sharing knowledge with you. Again you must make the first move to get your name out there. Introduce yourself get to know all the people you can.

Websites: Have a blog or site  with your contact information and what you do. Let people in! Give people a chance to know you too.

Business after hours: Go out and have fun. Its nothing wrong with starting a casual conversation and passing a business cards. A lot of people are there doing the same thing you are. Exchange cards don’t forget to call sometime.Pass each other business for time to time. You have a contact for life now.

I’ve also tried signing up for sites like Linkedin.com,twitter,del.icious,magnolia and etc.

My biggest accomplishment honestly, has been going up to new businesses. I go and visit new business owner make sure I’m dressed appropriately. I shake their hand and introduce myself. Ask them questions about their business. Just to see if they can benefit from my service. Now that you have them open and listening you can move in there. Then tell them about yourself and what you’re trying to do. Listen, talk, listen some more. Depending if they are interested giving them a business card. Even if they aren’t interested give them a card. They might know someone how could use your service.

Mailer: When I first started I did mailers. I searched my city’s chamber members list and sent everyone (yes took a lot of time) a postcard. With all my contact information and services. I actually got 75 calls with in the first week. Which was good considering that when I cold called no one needed the service.

Flyers: I stapled flyer’s every where. Post office, mom’s job, Girlfriends job, apt complex, barber shops, restaurants, light poles.

Publications: I placed an ad with every free news publications in the city. I even went as far as placing ads in other state papers.

If you are young and hungry and passionate about what you are doing.

You will do anything to get your name out there. Don’t be afraid to let

people know who you are and what you’re doing. If you won’t go get it. Then

what are you doing it for?
